Studios have asked me to use other pipelines but, after I demo what I can achieve in Lightwave, they let me use it instead. It is faster for me than any other package. I have tried a lot of other modellers and I still use Lightwave. I started with LW Version 3 back in the days of the Amiga 4000. Why Lightwave? Well, for me, I'm an old mans these days. Aston did not have blueprints for me as the DB5 was hand made over jigs etc. Hardest part was that I could not disassemble the dash etc - which would have made life easier. When the part was modelled - I would resize it to a third scale of my measurements. With large parts like the body - I would model in sections to allow for camera distortion. I'd place the photo in modeller and build over the top. first I would run down to the studio where the full size Bond DB5 was, (50 yards lol) and photograph and measure parts. I modelled the whole car - body, tyres, bolt ons and interior. If you have any questions please contact me on Once printed, the skilled team of prop makers assembled the parts to produce the DB5 stunt doubles that you see in the movie. Smaller detailed parts such as the dash components, Rims etc were produced on a Projet printer.Īs you can appreciate, I could not dismantle and scan the existing Bond car so I had to photograph the body and all of the components in order to model over the top. It is this 3D printer (Voxeljet) that we used to print the larger parts of the 1.5 miniature used in Skyfall. Propshop has the second largest format 3D printer currently available - capable of printing over one meter at a time. Thor2, Prometheus, Red2, Maleficent, Zero Dark 30, Fast and Furious 6 etc We then, in turn, 3D print or CNC these 3D models to create hero props for many films. My roll at Propshop is to model for the film industry. Propshop caters for all of the surrounding studios as well. I freelance for a company called, 'Propshop Model Makers' at Pinewood Studios UK. There is a lot of focus on the CG side of Lightwave and at times, perhaps not enough on the power of Lightwave's modeller. This one is judged by the NewTek LightWave 3D team.My name is Jet and I thought you would like to see what we are doing with Lightwave in the film industry. NewTek is also providing a special prize of a license or upgrade to a new edition of LightWave™ to the Best LightWave 3D Render among the entries. NewTek is providing LightWave 3D 2019, Nevron Motion™ and Chronosculpt™ licenses among the top prizes. Judging is by a large panel of industry professionals including 3D artists, journalists, developers and more. Participation in the contest is open to all comers. The competition is held in partnership with leading companies and 3D software manufacturers, and NewTek’s LightWave 3D® is among the group. Single-color and photographic backgrounds are not eligible for the contest. Competition is for the best car render, and both the vehicle and the setting must be modeled and rendered. Winners will be announced within approximately one week from the close of entries. They have just launched their fifth annual Car Render Challenge, which is open for entries from September 18 – December 4, 2018. They also regularly host modeling and rendering challenges, including an annual Car Challenge. 3D model site Hum3D offers possibly the largest online collection of cars, electronics, weapons and other 3d objects, with nearly 15,000 models and over 7000 car models.
